BEER Lao is easily one of the best beers in the region. Expatriates who have had a taste of the beer give it the thumbs up. Beer Lao is not only popular with foreigners, but also with locals. Best is, at less than US$1 per bottle, Beer Lao is as affordable as a cup of Lao coffee or a glass of fruit shake.
Lao alcohol, on the other hand, is a potent drink not for the faint-hearted. The rice whiskey comes in various flavours and manufacturing methods, depending on where it is produced. Visitors to the PakOu caves near Luang Prabang will probably stop at the well known village of Ban Xang Hai, where they distill rice whiskey.
