Abandoned building in city centre damaged by fire


Yesterday, a fire broke out unexpectedly at the old Odience drama building, which is located in the centre of Nongduang Market in Vientiane Capital.
Fortunately no one died or lost valuable property in the incident, however fire police are investigating and researching the cause of the fire in order to discover whether it was deliberately started.
A shop owner near to the scene of the fire, Mrs Young, said that the building was over 30 years old but had been out of service for at least five years.
She thought that the fire might have been caused by the age of building and the fact it had been unattended for so long.
She added that she has been worried about the risk of fire in the area due to the arrival of the dry season, saying that many people in Vientiane Capital use more electricity in this season to cope with the heat and that if electrical wires are old and exposed accidents are bound to happen, especially when people live in crowded areas.
The fire police said that people should pay close attention to their behaviours, residences and places of business during the dry season as the risk of fire was much greater.
