Study in Singapore this summer
WHAT will you be doing during the summer school holidays?
Well, for those who are interested to find out more about the education system in Singapore, here is your chance. The Lao-Singapore Business College (LSBC) is organising a 14-Day “Singapore Summer Camp” from 27 June to 10 July.
Ms Linda Ng, Managing Director of LSBC, told KPL News: “The camp itinerary is very comprehensive, including visits to government schools and private schools, international schools in Singapore, English lessons, as well as visiting the major tourist attractions like Sentosa and Boat Quay. It will be an eye opener for youths who intend to study in Singapore in future, and also good for those who are curious about the Singapore education system.”
So far, 12 people have signed up for the 14-day camp, organised for the first time in Laos. The USD1,715 price tag comes with lodging, meals, English lessons, air fares, transport, as well as a certificate from the Nanyang Institute of Management (NIM), which is co-organising the camp with LSBC.
The NIM is a campus-based institute that focuses on academic teaching and learning and vocational training. Its 24,000 sq m campus houses, amongst others, the School of Business, School of Nursing, School of Tourism and Hospitality and School of Language. The Institute, through its schools, offers a range of courses leading to Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree.
Ms Ng revealed that this summer camp came about due to demand from parents who have kids currently enrolled with LSBC’s summer English classes, held at the LSBC premise in Vientiane capital.
“Many parents hear good things about Singapore’s education system, particularly, its high standard of English. So they want to find out more by sending their kids to the summer camp.
“The take-up rate is positive so far. Although we do not put a cap on the maximum number of students we can take in, we do not intend to bring too large a group. We hope to attract about 20 students,” added Ms Ng.
As for students’ criteria, Ms Ng said: “So long as you can speak basic English, we will take you in. We do not put a limit to the age too, as long as you are above 12.” Ms Ng believed that students would benefit much from the exposure to an English-speaking environment in Singapore.
For those of you who are interested, do hurry down to the LSBC at 390, Ban Naxay, Nong Bone Road at Saysettha district (right next to the Singapore Embassy in Laos) or call 021-262523 or 021-262663 for more information.
