Vietnam to teach first MBA in Laos
Soulivan Vongmany
The National University of Laos (NUOL) last week officially signed a cooperative programme with the National Economic University of Vietnam (NEU) to launch the first Master of Business Administration programme in Vientiane .
The two-year part-time MBA course costs US$2,050 per student. The course is taught by Vietnamese lecturers, which necessitates a preparation course in which students must learn Vietnamese. The language course at NUOL has already been taught, beginning on January 2 and finishing on May 10.
The MBA aims to upgrade knowledge of economics management and business management and to better qualify the teaching staff of NUOL. Until now, people could only take such a course abroad, but could not afford the time off work to do so. With the introduction of this part-time programme, people can improve their education while continuing their employment.
Equipped with their language skills, the first batch of students began the first day of the MBA programme yesterday at NUOL. The subject contents are structured and delivered to boost students' analytical skills and to ensure an inter-weaving of theory and practice. The course has 69 students, including 14 women.
Deputy Education Minister, Professor Dr Somkot Mangnomek, who is also the NUOL Rector, and Professor Dr Vu Dinh Tinh, Cultural and Economic Counsellor to the Vietnamese embassy in Laos, attended the official opening day of the MBA programme.
Vice Rector of the NEU in Vietnam, Professor Dr Nguyen Thanh Do, said that NEU was a leading educational institute in economic and business management in Vietnam and was established in1956. It had cooperated with over 100 foreign institutions in about 30 countries around the world, and the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam had evaluated it as the most internationally active university over the past ten years.
He explained that under the special cooperation between Laos and Vietnam , the NEU had worked hard to prepare the MBA programme and placed a high responsibility on teaching using student-centred methods. It was supplying experienced teachers to teach the course.
The course focuses on financing and banking and accounting and business administration.
