PETALING JAYA (April 3, 2005) - The Asean Football Federation (AFF) will organise a preparatory tournament for national Under-23 teams as prelude to the SEA Games football event scheduled to be held in Manila in November. The dates for this warm-up event were set by the AFF competitions committee at a meeting in Petaling Jaya near here today. Two groups of five teams each will play in the tournament to be held in Bangkok and Phuket from August 27 to September 11. "The tournament will serve as preparation for the teams for the SEA Games in the Philippines," said Datuk Paul Mony Samuel after the meeting. He said the dates of two other competitions on the AFF calendar of events have also been set: the Under-17 tournament is scheduled for July 4-16 in Bangkok while the futsal championship is scheduled for April 30 to May 7, also in Bangkok. All 10 members of AFF will field teams in the Under-17 event while the futsal tournament will see six nations participate. Indonesia will host the Under-20 event in the August but the exact date and venue will be disclosed later this month. Meanwhile, Brunei have offered to host the biennial Asean Champions Club tournament. Paul said the Bruneians will shortly disclose when they can host the event. Source: www.aseabfootball.com
