Luxembourg pledges continued assistance to Laos Photo: View of Luxembourg Vientiane (VNA) - Luxembourg has pledged to continue cooperation and assistance to Laos in order to help the country meet its strategic goals of becoming a strong country, reducing poverty among the Lao people and reaching the Millennium Development Goals. The commitments were made by Luxembourg leaders at meetings with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Somsavad Lengsavad during his official visit to Luxembourg last week. The Lao Deputy PM thanked the Luxembourg government and people for their cooperation, particularly in rural development, healthcare and training. He highly praised the two sides' exchange of visits of high-level delegations, saying that they strengthened the two countries' friendship and cooperation. During his stay in Luxembourg, Deputy PM Somsavad Lengsavad attended the second meeting of the Laos-Luxembourg partnership committee and met Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, and worked with Deputy Prime Minister Jean Asselborn. On this occasion, the two sides signed five documents on cooperation in rural development, healthcare and vocational training worth 15.5 million euros (18 million USD). Similarly, Luxembourg will consider providing Laos with banking and tourism training. Luxembourg has helped Laos in rural development, healthcare, vocational training and poverty reduction with a total disbursed capital of 20.5 million euros in the 2003-06 period.--Enditem Source: VNA
