Vientiane ENongkai co-operation expanded A new facility to monitor security along the Mekong River was officially opened on 28 September at Nong Kai province. A speed boat will be moored at the facility. The boat will monitor security along the Mekong between Vientiane and Nong Kai Thailand. Amongst the guests at the opening ceremony were Dr Sinlavong Khoupaithoun, Vice Mayor of Vientiane. Chairman of Vientiane’s Drug Control and Suppression Committee, Mr Vongsack Chaleuanphanith, Governor of Nong Kai. A number of senior officials from both sides also attended the ceremony. The opening of the new base is part of the co-operation on security between the government of Laos and Thailand. It is also a milestone for development on a local level for the two nations. It responds to the need of the people of Vientiane and Nong Kai. The security facility will be jointly implemented one time a week by the authorities of Vientiane and Nong Kai. Source: kplnet
