VISITORS to Luang Prabang must not give these two a miss EKuangsi Waterfall and the Night Market.
KuangsiEis the word for DeerEin Lao language, hence many believe that the waterfall had in the past, been a habitat for wildlife animals, including the deer of course.
Kuangsi waterfall is accessible by road from Luang Prabang town. It is a 28km scenic drive that takes you along the Mekong River on Wat Phabasaman, passing by small villages like Nadeuy, Sung, Nonesaath and Ou. Along the way, you can get a glimpse into the lifestyle of local villagers, who toil at the rice fields during daytime.
Once you reach Kuangsi waterfall, you might want to join tourists frolicking in the small pond near the waterfall, or the locals enjoying a leisurely afternoon having a picnic in the open field near the waterfall.
Kuangsi boasts of facilities such as parking lots, toilets, restaurants and souvenir shops.
The other attraction of Luang Prabang is the night market along Sisavangvong Road.
This stretch of market, known as Talat Hmeut, is a place that sells everything from Lao handicraft, wood carving, silver jewelry, ornamental bowls, etc. It is opened from 5pm all the way to 11pm. Majority of the stuff sold belongs to Luang Prabang’s ethnic groups, including the Hmongs. It is one of the best places to get souvenirs for friends and relatives.
The night market is lined by two rows comprising restaurants, Internet cafes, antique shops etc.
