The medal is recognition of the fact that LNTV was a finalist for the International Children's Day of Broadcasting Award given during the 32nd Emmy Awards in November in New York. "This medal is a prestigious award, since LNTV was one of only four finalists," said UNICEF representative Olivia Yambi at the ceremony. The 15-minute programme includes a song of encouragement for girls to go to school and a story from Luang Prabang Television about a girl in a remote ethnic community who walks almost two km from home to school and back. "In making the programme, we learned a lot about the willingness of communities to deal with obstacles to sending and keeping their girls in school," said LNTV Director General Bouasone Phongphavanh. "LNTV is very pleased to receive this medal because we know that we were competing with the world's best children's television producers," he added.
