16,000 culture families nationwide
LAOS boasts of 16,000 culture families and the local authorities are still counting.
At the inaugural nationwide culture family meeting held in Sayaboury province last Thursday, Dr Phandouangchit Vongsa, Minister of Information and Culture, said that culture families serve as role models and an inspiration for others. He was addressing representatives from the culture families, as well as district chiefs and Information and Culture delegates.
During the conference, Mr Khampew Bouaphachanh, Head of Culture Department, reported that this project has scored many successes since its implementation in 1993.
About a quarter of the 16,000 culture families are in Vientiane Capital.
