PEOPLE involved in the short film Nam Fon announced that they will be looking for young talents for roles in the story through a press conference last week.
The Nam Fon story, which will be produced with cooperation between the UNFPA, the Lao Women's Union, the Lao Youth Union and the Vientiane Youth Centre, Japanese Organisation for International Cooperation in Family Planning, is basically about young love gone wrong.
For the lead roles in the film officials are appealing for actors who will have to portray a range of emotions, such as innocence, joy, pain, anger and frustration.
Officials involved in the project said that they are looking for an applicant to play the role of Ms Nam Fon, the lead actress in the story along with Ms Son, Noy, Eyre, Mr Toi and Mr Parn.
This video is a very good opportunity for the young people to join the event said Mr David Shennan, Media and Office Manager of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and a scriptwriter.
The Nam Fon video is not only to entertain young people, but the teenagers will also learn to protect themselves from early and unwanted pregnancies, illegal abortion and others, said David at the press conference on Thursday at the Vientiane Youth Centre for Health and Development.
He said Lao young people could play an important role in the video, which must be both believable and entertaining to be successful.
"The video needs good acting from Lao youngsters and good acting by Lao youths who will help us to succeed with this project," he said. The Nam Fon video is a story about a young and innocent girl from the country who comes to the city and suffers reproductive health problems after having sex with a man.
Nam Fon eventually has an unwanted pregnancy and aborts the child. She comes close to dying but she luckily receives help after assistance from relatives and survives.
Young people can apply for the role of Nam Fon, Son, Eyre, Mr Toi and Parn at the Vientiane Youth Centre from Tuesday to Saturday. Applications will close on October.
