PRIOR to the Gypsy Queenfs two-night performance at Lao National Cultural Hall on Friday and Saturday, a welcome reception was held at Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsurafs residence on 26 May.
The function was attended by over 50 guests, including Mr Khekkeo Soysaya, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Phongsavad Boupha, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Information and Culture.
Speaking at the reception, Ambassador Makoto said that the Gypsy Queen concert is aptly titled g Wefre Backh, because this is the second time the group, featuring young musicians in Japan, performs for the Vientiane audience.
The first time the group came was two years ago, where they performed a special concert during the gJapan-ASEAN Exchange Year 2003h. Then, the Gypsy Queen charmed the Lao audience, especially youths, with their charisma and music.
Established in 1997, the Gypsy Queen has performed in China, Mongolia and ASEAN countries in its bid to create a friendly network in Asia through music.
This time round, Ms Noy Sensouriya will perform together with Gypsy Queen. Ms Noy also performed with them in 2003. Since then, they have become good friends and communicated with each other by e-mail all the time, said Japanese Ambassador.
The year 2005 is the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and Japan. To celebrate this special year, Gypsy Queen and Ms Noy prepared a new song called g Vientianeh for the memory of the warm friendship between Laos and Japan, concluded Japanese Ambassador.
